Well, if you don't live in Los Angeles (which I can tell she does not), use your "kid power." What's kid power? Most people LOVE to help a kid with drive. Make a list of actresses, actors, directors, and producers that you would like to one day work with. For example: Steven Spielberg often talks about how he was directing movies in his back yard as a kid. Find people like him and reach out to people in a letter. Tell them how old you are and what you're doing now to pursue your dream. Tell them where you live and ask them for advice on what more you can be doing right now. If you plan to go to college, ask them for advice on which colleges to consider and what you can be doing now for extra curricular activities to help you get in. If you don't plan to pursue an acting career immediately, explain that you don't plan to pursue acting as a job until you're finished with your education, but in the mean time would like to build relationships with mentors so when you do move to NY or LA, you'll be ready and educated on the business side of the industry. If you do plan to start as soon as possible, that's what you want to ask advice about, what steps to take now.

entertainment industry coach question 630:My project is done but the music and I don't have $. How important is the music in a film?

Uh boy! Do you really want to open these flood gates, because my composers are going to eat you alive, not to mention any director worth his weight.

In fact, (and don't think I'm angry because I'm not. I want you to feel safe submitting questions to me, this is just tough love...) answer me this, and you'll answer your own question:

Would Jaws have had the same impact if Steven Spielberg ran out of money and had no music for his oncoming shark?

I rest my case...

But wait there's more, so much more! The stingers from Seinfeld are epic, they still play in my head. Someone composed those! And sound effects and foley, this is ALL part of the sound of a project and how the sound in turn makes you feel, and ultimately how you feel about a project determines if it's going to be a hit or a miss.

There is a piano piece, I believed played by Jim Brickman though the music is credited to James Horner, for the film A Beautiful Mind. This piece has the power to transform me in an instant, to bring tears to my eyes, to break my heart, and somehow uplift me at the same time. It's as close to perfect as a piece of music gets for me. So incredibly beautiful and moving. Literally, if I was going to be stuck on a desert island and could only bring one song with me, this would be the one... no lyrics, but it speaks to me, and the conversation always changes.

Perhaps you can find a gifted artist who needs a break and would work with you... what I'm saying is, don't give up because of money, it's too important.

entertainment industry coach question 531: What is the appropriate way to address a well known industry person, Sir, Mr.?

I am going to tell you how I personally do it and why. You have to do what feels comfortable for you.

I always address someone by their first name and introduce myself by my first name. The way I see it is, the only difference between me and Sandra Bullock are the opportunities she's had. We are both sweet gals who would get along famously, as long as I don't refer to her as "Miss Bullock." Why? because that would make her feel like I was putting her up on a pedestal. Perhaps, "Sir" Elton John, needs to be addressed as "Sir," I don't know, I've never met him, but for the most part, Steven, Marty, and Tom are people just like you and me. They put their pants on one leg at a time. Treat them respectfully as people and you're sure to get a positive reaction. If not, you're dealing with an egomaniac, and who needs that?

entertainment industry coach Question 485: Is it possible to meet directors like Spielberg and Scorsese?

Of course it's possible. Depending on where you live, you may have to leave your area. Look, pretty much everyone is accessible in Hollywood. You can see directors speak at Q&As about their films, especially around award time. You can meet them at an awards show. You can get a job working for their company. You can work hard at your craft and business and get famous enough to be introduced. You can bump into them at the Century City Mall. You can buy a star map. Do you see where I'm going with this?

I can go on and on about ways to meet famous people you admire. But why do you want to meet them? What's your objective? Who would you be if you got the opportunity... a professional ready to have a colleague to colleague conversation or a blubbering fan?

Maybe I don't understand why you're asking the question so I'm not giving a very good answer.
